Press Release October 2012
CAN ART BE GREEN?

Cassandra Tondro, a leader in the Green Art Movement, has found that art can not only be made from green materials, but can be visually exciting and thought-provoking, as well. Artists are often at the forefront of innovation and change, and through the use of natural, nontoxic, recycled, and repurposed materials, green artists bring attention to issues of pollution, waste and sustainability.

Tondro leads the way in the Green Art Movement with her abstract paintings created from colorful leftover acrylic latex paint -- also known as house paint -- that she rescues from recycling centers in the Los Angeles area and also finds on the “mistint” shelves of home improvement stores.

On Sunday, November 11th, Tondro debuts as the first green painter in Southern California at the Santa Monica YWCA. This launch event marks the opening of Cassandra Tondro Green Art and will be the first time the artist has demonstrated her painting technique in public. Each painting is a unique creation with inspiration coming from the selection of colors themselves.

The live painting demonstration will be from 1:30-3:00 pm. A raffle benefiting the YWCA will be held at 3:30 p.m, and several winners will receive the demonstration paintings done that afternoon. Raffle tickets are available online at www.tondro.com/event and at the event, which is free to the public.

Tondro's current paintings can be seen on her website at www.tondro.com and she is also available to create custom commissions. Clients can select colors to create a piece that harmonizes with an existing interior, and their own surplus house paint can be incorporated into the artwork, along with other paints from the artist's collection.

Tondro has a wide range of green art resources on her website, for those interested in pursuing a more eco-friendly lifestyle.

Natural and green product vendors will also be exhibiting at the launch.
