My solo exhibition at The Rose Cafe was installed over the weekend, and it looks so good that I'm dedicating this issue of my newsletter to the show. It's not often that I get to show my paintings in the Los Angeles area, and this is a comprehensive overview of two years of work -- 22 paintings.
Some of the paintings in the show are so big I have never seen them hung before. I was especially pleased with how good the four-panel piece, Unfolding, looks against a well-lit dark gray-green wall.
All of my paintings look good at The Rose Cafe, and I hope you get a chance to stop by and see the show before it closes on November 29th. I also hope to see you at my opening reception on October 24th.
Many thanks to the curator at The Rose Cafe, Karen Black, for the opportunity to show my work, and to Bob, their excellent installer!
Best wishes,

To the left, proof that I do occasionally wear something other than paint-splattered clothes! I'm dressed for a talk about my work at The Rose Cafe. |

Solo Show at The Rose Cafe
The Rose Cafe in Venice is the venue for my solo exhibition, "Mad Scientist," October 14th through November 29th. The show features 22 paintings from my "Oops!" and "Haz Mat" series, and is a comprehensive overview of two years of work.
I named the show “Mad Scientist” because I think of myself as a mad scientist in my approach to art. Mad science is a process of experimentation, observation and discovery – trial and error in the pursuit of happy accidents.
The paintings in this show use reclaimed materials -- paint that would otherwise go to waste. The acrylic latex paint comes from the "Oops!" shelves at Home Depot and the local Household Hazardous Waste Facility.
Please join me at the cafe for an opening reception on Saturday, October 24th, from 3:00 - 4:30pm. The Rose Cafe is open daily. |

Artist Studio Tour Group
Carol Friedman hosts monthly artist studio tours, and she recently brought a group to The Rose Cafe to hear me speak about my work. Twenty-six people braved the rain to have lunch and to see my "Mad Scientist" show, and I really enjoyed talking with them.
For more information about these monthly excursions, you can contact Carole at caroleart@roadrunner.com. |

Donation to ARTconnectsLA
Because I believe that everyone should have access to original art, a portion of the proceeds from my show at The Rose Cafe will be donated to ARTconnectsLA. ARTconnectsLA is an art placement program in Los Angeles that is modeled after The Art Connection in Boston, and I am one of four founding partners.
We are beginning to place artwork in community centers, healthcare facilities, social service agencies and other nonprofit organizations, and we are in need of funds for framing works on paper, printing a brochure, and office supplies.
I believe that art makes a difference in people's lives, and I support ARTconnectsLA in their efforts to bring art to all segments of the community. |
