Yes, I do sometimes get out of the studio! I went to the Hollywood Bowl with my brother for the James Taylor/Carole King concert, which was excellent. It was the middle of May, but still chilly at night, which is why I have my winter coat on in this picture. It was fun!
Things are picking up, and it's been busy lately. The Art Connection in Boston and ARTconnectsLA here in Los Angeles have both been placing lots of my work. I also did an installation of paintings at The Gourmet Tamale Factory in San Fernando recently.
I attended two charitable events last week where my paintings were on display, and I have lots of pictures of everything for you to see!
Hope you're enjoying the summer!
Best wishes,

Children's Bureau Reception
Children's Bureau recently hosted a reception and luncheon at their Magnolia Place Family Center in Los Angeles. Seven of my paintings have been placed there, along with the work of six other artists. All of the artists were invited to attend the opening event. It's a beautiful new building, filled with light. Most of the artwork is in the lobby, and it's very warm and inviting.
Children's Bureau helps to strengthen families with young children and the communities in which they live. They have expertise in areas such as school readiness, parenting, family resource centers, support groups, mental health counseling, foster care, adoption and more. They also conduct research and advocate for improved public policies.
I took pictures of the event and the art, and posted them on Flickr. |

The Gourmet Tamale Factory

Hot Tamale 3 , 2010, 24 x 30 inches,
repurposed acrylic latex paint on canvas
Installed at The Gourmet Tamale Factory |
I installed seven paintings at The Gourmet Tamale Factory in San Fernando, CA yesterday. This place is amazing! They make 1,500 tamales a day, and 8,000 tamales a day during the Christmas season. They sell their tamales at the restaurant as well as at many of the farmers' markets throughout Southern California. They use fresh corn husks, not dried, and have several varieties of tamales to choose from. Definitely worth the drive!
My paintings are color coordinated with the colors of their walls and uniforms -- apple green, crimson red, dark sage green and mustard yellow.
The shows at The Gourmet Tamale Factory are curated by Karen Nichols, who owns La Galeria Gitana. So while you're there for tamales, check out the gallery right across the street.
I have pictures of the installation on Flickr.

Project Angel Food GET ART Event
Project Angel Food held their annual GET ART fundraiser last weekend. I donated a painting for the sale, and was invited to attend the VIP Reception and general sales event. It was fun! They took over Siren Studios in Hollywood, and displayed the artwork on portable walls. Collectors were invited, and there was lively music, performance art, gourmet catering trucks, and an artist doing 20-minute portraits.
Project Angel Food's mission is to nourish the body and spirit of men, women and children affected by HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other life-threatening illnesses. Volunteers and staff cook and deliver free and nutritious meals prepared with love throughout Los Angeles County, acting out of a sense of urgency because hunger and illness do not wait.
You can see my pictures of the event on Flickr. |

Recent Placements of My Artwork

Sea Glass 1, 2006, 22 x 30 inches, acrylic on canvas
Placed at the Cambridge Health Alliance Whidden
Hospital in Everett, MA |
The Cambridge Health Alliance Whidden Hospital in Everett, MA selected one of my paintings for their recently renovated facility. Whidden is a busy community hospital that serves the 200,000 residents of Everett, Revere, Chelsea, Winthrop, and Malden. As the only hospital in this five-city area, Whidden provides many services including 24-hour emergency care, surgery, orthopedic care, rehabilitation, specialty care, primary care, and a mental health program. The art will hang in Whidden’s recently renovated lobbies, in the hallways, waiting areas, and cafeteria to help make the space more pleasurable and friendly to patients and families accessing services there. |
One of my paintings was recently placed at the Community Legal Services and Counseling Center (CLSACC) in Cambridge, MA. CLSACC provides free civil legal aid and affordable psychological counseling to low-income people. Their services combat the effects of poverty and violence by helping clients and their children meet basic human needs for safety, income, health, and housing. Many of CLSACC’s clients have experienced violence or trauma and come to CLSACC seeking assistance to escape violent/traumatic situations. Counseling clients come to the agency seeking assistance with depression or emotional distress. The artwork will hang in the entry, hallway, conference rooms, and counseling offices to present a more professional and calming appearance to clients. |
