Too many ideas and not enough time for all of them. Do you have this same problem? I have more creative things that I want to try than I could possibly explore in this lifetime. I have to decide which ones are worth persuing, and which are a distraction from my overall direction. Sometimes I go off on a tangent that turns out to be a dead end, but I can only ever see that in hindsight.
I thought I would share some of my latest experiments with you. I don't yet know if they'll develop into a complete body of work. They could be one-of-a-kind orphans, or I might decide that it's a direction that I want to develop further.
Hope you're all well and enjoying the summer!
Best wishes,

Experimental Paintings
I've had about ten yards of burlap sitting in my studio for many years, and I recently decided to see how latex paint would look splattered onto it. I love the texture, the earthy smell, and the natural buff color of burlap. It's interesting how the paint sinks into it, and the way the colors layer on top of each other. It's very different from painting on canvas.
These two paintings are my first burlap experiments. I like the look of it, and I'm going to play around with it some more. I have some ideas that I want to try. |

Miniatures
My miniature paintings range in size from 2-1/2 x 3-1/2 inches to 6 x 6 inches. The larger ones can hang alone or in groups without framing, and I'm working on framing ideas for the smaller ones. I haven't found any ready-made frames that small, so I'm experimenting with mounting them on lengths of straight willow and burlap-covered painted canvas.
You can see more of these paintings on the miniatures pages of my website. |

New Books
| I'm mentioned in two new books that were recently published, and that I highly recommend. |
The first is Fine Art Adoption Network, by Adam Simon.
One of my adopted paintings is featured along with the initial e-mail message from the woman who adopted the work. It's a fun little book about an interesting concept. The Fine Art Adoption Network has been around for about three years now, with over 250 participating artists and about 400 works of art adopted.

The other book is the sixth edition of How to Survive and Prosper As an Artist, by Caroll Michels.
This latest edition features a section on "Art Marketing and the Internet," and there are a couple of paragraphs about me and my blog. |
