Fall 2011

It's Fall, which means leaf monoprint season for me. The early rain brought down lots of leaves, and I've been busy pressing and steam printing.

I'm also working on a large commission for a lovely couple in Houston. Commissions can be a challenge -- meeting expectations, communicating colors and designs, accurately depicting images. But it's a challenge that I enjoy, especially when the client sees the finished painting and is pleased with the result.

Contact me for a free consultation about commissioned paintings for your home or business project!

I hope you're enjoying these transitional days, and doing well.

Introducing Leaf Monoprints

Gathering fallen leaves for my leaf monoprints is a daily ritual in Autumn. The leaves are pressed flat, then steamed against paper under pressure to create leaf monoprints. No inks, dyes or paints are used -- just the colors from the leaves themselves. It's the ultimate in eco-friendly art, and the leaves go into my compost pile after steaming.

This year I have leaf monoprints available in two sizes -- 11 x 14 inches and 14 x 18 inches. Each monoprint is an original, printed on heavyweight deckle-edge cotton rag paper, and signed on the back. Contact me for information about pricing and availability.

I'll be sharing the leaf monoprint process in detail on my blog, if you'd like to follow along.

New Paintings Available on Etsy

I recently added some 12-by-12-inch paintings to my Etsy shop. These pieces are created from repurposed acrylic latex paint, also known as house paint, on stretched cotton canvas. Repurposed paint is paint that would otherwise go to waste, and that I rescue from the local recycling center and the "mistint" shelves of home improvement stores before it is sent to landfills.

With a long-standing interest in incorporating nontoxic and eco-friendly materials into her artwork, artist Cassandra Tondro uses leftover acrylic latex paint – better known as house paint – in her paintings. She rescues the paint from recycling centers in the Los Angeles area before it is sent to landfills, and also combs the "mistint" shelves of home improvement stores.

Cassandra's paintings have been featured in solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States and abroad. Her work is in numerous public, corporate and private collections. In addition, one of her paintings was selected for the American Embassy in Yaounde, Cameroon in conjunction with the Art in Embassies Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State.
