August 2010

Greetings! How has your summer been so far? It's been strangely cool here this summer, with the temperature barely reaching into the 70s, while other parts of the country are baking. Very weird.

I've been preparing for fall shows and reworking my marketing strategy. As you may have guessed from the new banner above, I'm emphasizing the eco-friendly aspect of my work and marketing to people who are interested in "green" homes, offices and buildings.

I've also been doing some painting, and you can see two of my newest pieces below.

I hope this newsletter finds you well and enjoying these last days of summer!

Best wishes,

Bergamot Station Cafe Show

A show of my paintings opens at the Bergamot Station Cafe in Santa Monica on August 21st. The show, curated by Jamie Robin, features six paintings from my "Haz Mat" series and five smaller paintings.

Bergamot Station is Southern California's largest art gallery complex and cultural center. The cafe is a fun place for lunch with a fantastic menu and a beautiful patio.

The show runs through October 2, and the cafe hours are Monday 9am-4pm, Tuesday-Friday 9am-5pm, and Saturday 10am-5pm. Meet me there for lunch or afternoon tea?

New eCommerce Website

I've added eCommerce to my website! Yes, now you can buy paintings any time of day, wherever you are in the world, even when all of the galleries are closed.

I've also added information about how my artwork fits into the world of sustainability, the materials that I use, and LEED certification, for those working on "green" building projects.

I'm continuing to expand the information on commissions and terms of sale, and to add more descriptive information for each painting.

Recent Placements of My Work

Several of my paintings were recently placed at Children's Bureau, Oakwood Family Resource Center in Los Angeles by ARTconnectsLA, and The Neville Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Cambridge, MA by The Art Connection in Boston.

Children's Bureau, Oakwood Family Resource Center selected five of my paintings, including the large triptych show below, for their inner city facility . Their mission is to significantly change the lives of at-risk children by providing state-of-the-art child abuse prevention and treatment services.

The Neville Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation has one of my paintings. They are a health care facility in Cambridge that provides a broad range of services to address many levels of care in a comfortable and friendly environment. They work with patients who require short term rehab, long-term skilled nursing care, and part-hospitalization care to help people regain their optimal health and mobility.

New Work

Orchids 1, 24 x 24 inches, repurposed acrylic latex paint on canvas

These are two new paintings that I thought I would share with you. Click on the images to see them larger on my website.

I found most of the colors in Orchids 1 on the mistint reject shelves on the same day. That happens sometimes, where a painting is almost put together for me, by the colors that present themselves all at once. And on other days, it will be all greens or all yellows that are available. You never know!

Ascension is an ethereal creation featuring deep and bright blues, along with pale and dark magenta. It has an otherworldly appearance, sort of like smoke or storm clouds.

Both of these paintings are currently available.
