April 2010

You may notice that the banner image at the top of this newsletter looks different. I did a makeover on my website, and the banner image is in the style of my new website design. I added a Press page where you can see articles that have been written about my work, and there's a new Events page, for pictures of my shows.

It's been a busy month, but aren't they all? I need about ten more hours in the day to get everything done! I've been working in the studio, and trying to keep up with social media. Who knew that Facebook could take over my life?

I hope this newsletter finds you happy and doing well.

Best wishes,

New Work

I found an incredible apple green paint on the "Oops!" shelves at Home Depot a couple of weeks ago, and I couldn't wait to try it out. The two paintings below are the result, and believe it or not, I toned down the green. I love the play between the red/orange and the apple green background. In person, the colors are even more vibrant than they appear in these images. They're HOT!

My Frameable Art Cards and small paintings are now available at OBJCT Gallery in Claremont.

Check out the "Claremont Modernism" show while you're there -- through April 25th. It's a beautiful exhibit of painting, architecture, furniture, ceramics, and interiors with works by Karl Benjamin, Roland Reiss, Cliff May, Sam Maloof, Peter Voulkos, Millard Sheets, Richard Neutra, and others.

OBJCT Gallery is also offering talks and a book signing related to the show. More information on the OBJCT Gallery website.

Art Calendar Article

My artwork was featured in the April 2010 issue of Art Calendar magazine. Renee Phillips wrote an article about donating artwork to charities and nonprofit organizations, and she interviewed me about ARTconnectsLA, the art placement organization that I founded with three other women. Art Calendar dedicated half a page to my painting titled Sea Glass, which was recently placed at Common Ground in Santa Monica.

You can see the article on the new Press page of my website.

Art Mentor Discussion Group

Artists, consider joining us on the Art Mentor Discussion Group. I mentioned last month that I had started a mentor relationship with Georgianne Holland, an artist in Westminster, CO. It occurred to me that the things Georgianne and I were discussing might be of interest to other artists who are serious about selling their work, so I started the Art Mentor Discussion Group. We currently have 15 members, and we're looking to expand. The idea is that we each have different knowledge, experiences, and resources, and that we can mentor each other. We welcome both emerging artists and more experienced artists. We talk about everything from pricing to licensing, and we're planning to show our work together, probably in an online venue, since we're located in different parts of the country.

Irma Colen Family Health Center

Ice Storm, 2002, 36 x 36 inches, acrylic paint on canvas

ARTconnectsLA recently placed seven artworks at the new Irma Colen Family Health Center, including one of my paintings shown at left, Ice Storm. The Colen Family Health Center is part of Venice Family Clinic, and is located in Mar Vista.

The clinic is name for Irma Colen, who, with her husband, Lou, worked for nearly 30 years to improve the quality of life for low-income and uninsured families in Los Angeles County through Venice Family Clinic. Their persistence and generosity were largely responsible for transforming Venice Family Clinic from a small storefront operation into the largest free clinic in the country.
